It’s not easy to maintain a healthy lifestyle in a world where fast food is as close as an app on your phone. It will take months of hard work before you see any progress. Discipline and hard work are necessary for doing things like cutting out your favorite foods and exercising five days a week. After giving birth, Aakriti Kalra decided to begin her weight loss journey. Before she started her weight-loss journey, she was 40 pounds overweight. After committing to a diet and exercise plan, Kalra was able to shed 35 kg. The tale of how she lost weight is very amazing.
How Power Yoga and Intermittent Fasting Helped Lose 35 Kilos in One Year?
Having given birth to a baby who was 40 kg overweight, I decided to go on a road toward fitness and weight loss. At the age of 25, I was hit with a slew of health problems that served as a rude awakening to the need to prioritise my health.
Aakriti Kalra’s Attempt to Lose Weight
I spent a whole year working hard to lose weight, not just to improve my appearance but also to encourage myself to adopt a healthy lifestyle. It was never about appearances for me; I wanted to get better inside and out.
For the last year, my primary source of motivation has been the gradual decline I’ve observed in the scale’s readings whenever I checked my weight. A medium-sized tee was always a pipe dream, but an extra-small one was unthinkable. When I first started exercising, I weighed 85 kg, but now that I’m 54, I love myself even more. Aakriti Kalra’s goal of weight loss was not about how she looked but rather about improving her health.
Dietary Changes
In 2016, when I first started my weight loss quest, I was unaware of intermittent fasting. That’s why it came as a surprise to me when my dietitian insisted that I eat supper before 5 o’clock. At first, I struggled to keep it under control, but as I saw positive outcomes, I came to trust in its efficacy. Fasting for 16 hours a day had to become a habit, regardless of where one was or what one was doing. The second step was to eliminate certain food groups from one’s diet, namely refined flour, fried foods, junk food, sweets, and carbonated beverages.
- To start the day off right, have some low-calorie milk. A single cup containing a few handfuls of cereal (muesli or wheat flakes)
- One salad dish during lunchtime
- Lunch was whole wheat roti with sabji and curd.
- After 5 o’clock, have some almonds or a cookie with your tea.
- A bowl of clear soup OR two egg white omelettes with a glass of smoothie
- In addition to three litres of water
The weight loss achieved by Aakriti Kalra is inspiring.
Regarding weight loss and cheat meals, I was so committed to my health and fitness goals that I never once allowed myself to indulge in a cheat meal. On occasion, though, I would give in to my unreliable desires by eating some of my normal favourites, such as dark chocolate.
The single most important thing I did to help me lose weight was to cut out sugar from my diet. To get to my goal weight, I eliminated all sources of sugar from my diet and stuck to it religiously. Some halwa is okay, but I’d rather have a whole dinner.
At first, my routine for losing weight and working out consisted mostly of running and other easy exercises. Truthfully, my body had a hard time adjusting to the same at first, but after a few days, it started growing in strength and feeling more capable. Soon after that, I increased my activity level with things like power yoga and strength training, and I dropped 15 pounds. Because of my improved endurance and mobility, I was able to incorporate a relatively more strenuous exercise regimen, which, in conjunction with my dietary changes, pushed me farther forward in my weight-loss quest.
My mantra for losing weight is that it is more of a mental shift than a physical one. A person’s road to weight reduction begins the moment they decide to make positive changes to their lifestyle and begin making healthier decisions. Additionally, I think most of us know a lot about weight reduction and the greatest health measures, but what might assist more is pure drive and devotion to be consistent all along.
In just 365 days, Aakriti Kalra went from a size 24 to a size 8.
I think everyone has their unique path to weight loss, but for me, striking a good balance between nutrition and activity was essential. Fasting intermittently, working out regularly, and adopting other healthy habits helped me achieve my goals.
